Is the O silent in the word opossum?
I know this is supposed to be for programming but here it is: The O in "Opossum" is actually pronounced (ignore what google tells you below). It's a common misconception that it's not voiced, but it is. Sometimes people will shorten "opossum" to "possum", and in that case you can drop the "o" sound.
