It is used for to get column information not the actual data of column
Common methods are getColumnCount and getColumnLabel

ResultSetMetaData rsmd = rs.getMetaData();
// Metadata -- data about the data
// ResultSetMetaData -- data about the ResultSet object that
contain our resulting rows and columns
