azure vm the logon attempt failed

What worked for me was changing the RDP login screen to use a different account,
and use the "local account" which is the name of the VM and the username,
like so: TheVMName\TheAdminUsername

Where TheVMName is the name of your VM, 
and TheAdminUserName is the admin user name you used for that machine.
