sudo kill -9 <process_id>

sudo kill -9 <process_id>
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt updateE: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), are you root?
sudo kill -9 PID
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend
sudo apt updateE: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), are you root?

$ sudo dpkg --configure -a

For godaddy users. Please check if your firewall is not blocking port number
2224 which can essentially lead to file permission issue even you are logged in
as the root user.
